The IRONMAN

Larry Murray began life in Nevada, Missouri, where he was born in 1944. He grew up in a small, two-bedroom home with his mother and father, sister and three brothers. There wasn’t a lot of money, so “making something from nothing” was a way of life for him from the beginning.

His first horse was a POA appaloosa he purchased in 1964. His passion for the species began then and became a life-long commitment. While living near Adrian, Missouri in 1966, he learned about shoeing from Dick Gee in nearby Butler. He began shoeing his own horses and then for friends. A few months later, in 1969, he found himself in Sperry, Oklahoma attending Oklahoma Farrier College, studying under Bud Beaston.

He started his own business; he built “from the ground up.” Webster defines “Farrier” as a shoer of horses or one who works with iron, a blacksmith. The “ironman” does more than that. He can take old horseshoes that no longer serve the purpose for which they were intended and make them into beautiful works of art. He also incorporates horseshoe nails, old rasps and whatever he might find around his shop into these uniquely beautiful pieces. Now that’s recycling with style!

Larry and his wife, Joyce, run the business from their home near Wellsville, Kansas. He has used his unique ability to pass on the art of shoeing to future generations, including two sons. Now his creative artistry is available through "From The Ground Up Creations"

If you are looking for high quality, hand made jewelry, decor and furnishings in an authentic western style, you have arrived at the right website. From The Ground Up Creations will give you just that. These western furnishings are made of authentic recycled horse shoes. The western jewelry is crafted with precision by a man who knows what "Quality Work" really means, as is all of Larry Murray's art. As you will see below in his bio, Murray has been making his own horse shoes and shoeing horses for more than 40 years. His artistic ability came to him much sooner than that, at a very early age.
